New Metro cinemas made the announcement on Twitter to the excitement of fans.
As a result of series of personnel changes, the movie project which was announced nearly six years ago could not be released in time for the 20th anniversary of Tupac’s 1996 killing in Las Vegas. Nevertheless, it will now debut in US theatres on June 16. Sadly, this would have been the slain rapper’s 46th birthday.
In the biopic, Tupac is played by upcoming actor Demetrius Shipp Jr. whose father was a producer for Tupac. Though Shipp is not well known in the acting world, a trailer for All Eyez on Me showed that he has a startling physical resemblance to Tupac.
During an interview with hip-hop magazine XXL last year, Shipp explained why he’s enthusiastic about the role.
“Why I took on this role is to give people a side of him that they never had. To really get a great understanding of him and his life, and why things ended up the way they did.”
