Babes Wodumo Gets Schooled By Somizi
Wololo hitmaker Babes Wodumo become the talk of the Twitter town after she walked away without a gong at the SAMAs.
The singer must have been devastated after losing out during the glitzy event that took place at the Sun City Superbowl to life. It was a reprisal of the Metro FM awards where she got several nods without wining one.
While fans and fellow celebs are trying to comfort Babes after her SAMA disappointment, media personality and SAMA23 host Somizi had another outlook on the matter.

During his slot on Metro FM breakfast show, Somizi told fans that though Babes’ hit song Wololo got really popular after its release, there were other major songs that came after it.
Somizi was speaking on the show which he co-hosts with DJ Fresh. He emphasised that people should start looking beyond the fact that Wololo was like the national anthem and focus on the fact that it wasn’t the only big song in the country. According to Somizi, the period when the song was released makes it difficult for it to stay popular for a long time.
“Wololo was played a lot but it wasn’t the only song that was played (on radio). You have to remember timing. Babes became big at the very beginning of the year (the period in which SAMA nominations are considered) so other things happened after,” he said.
In addition, DJ Fresh added that ” Ngud (Kwesta’s hit track) was played everywhere. We played it to death at 5FM.”
The discussion was prompted by the social media storm that erupted after Babes Wodumo failed to take home any award at the SAMAs over the weekend. A lot of people sympathized with her, blaming award organizers for not acknowledging her. The self-acclaimed Gqom queen also expressed her disbelief that she didn’t win an award.
Thus, taking to social media, Babes wrote;
“These awards are sold. Continue buying the awards. But it’s fine, we won’t starve,” she said.
Nevertheless, Somizi encouraged her to keep making music until her “big break” came.

“I know how she feels because it took me a long time to be where I am today. It takes time. Babes you are just being cooked at the moment,” he added.
Meanwhile, Babes swore never to contest in any awards show if she fails to win at SAMAs.
