Obama Praises Jay Z In Induction Video
American rapper Jay Z was inducted into the 2017 Songwriters Hall of Fame on Thursday night in a very special way.
The rapper whose wife Beyoncé is expecting twins any moment from now, couldn’t make it to the event. Nonetheless, he received a world-class induction from a charismatic longtime fan; former US President Barack Obama.
Obama appeared in a new pre-recorded video which was aired at the 2017 Songwriters Hall of Fame induction ceremony. In his speech, Obama told the audience that he and Jay Z have a lot in common and that he’s been listening to Jay Z since he was a “young and hungry state senator.”

He started off by congratulating all the other inductees and reserved Jay Z’s name for the closing. The former president of the United States showered praises on Jay Z, saying they both share a lot common considering their humble beginnings.
“I like to think Mr Carter and I understand each other. Nobody who met us as younger men would have expected us to be where we are today. You know what it’s like not to have a father around, you know what it’s like not to come from much, and to know people who didn’t get the same breaks that we did. So we try to prop open those doors of opportunity so that it’s a little easier for those who come up behind us to succeed as well,” Obama said.
While the audience in New York City received this with a round of applause, Obama continued;
“Jay and I are also fools for our daughters, although he’s going to have me beat once those two twins show up. And let’s face it, we both have wives who are significantly more popular than we are,” he added.
Obama closes by saying, “I’m proud to help present this award to a true American original.”
