A massive fire has engulfed consumed a 24-storey high-rise apartment building in West London known as Grenfell Tower, and there were reports on social media that families were trapped inside at the windows as firefighters continue to battle this massive fire.

One side of the building appeared to be in flames, as 45 fire engines and 200 firefighters were called to the scene.

The London Fire Brigade tweeted that the fire involved the second to the top floor of the 24-storey building, the building is the Grenfell Tower in the North Kensington area.

The police was called at 01:16 BST to the Massive fire in the Grenfell Tower block of flats, in the Lancaster West Estate.

The Metropolitan Police said “an evacuation process is under way” 200 firefighters and 40 engines are now on the scene just as frantic residents turned sheets into ropes in a bid to escape, according to UK Daily Mail reports.

The Metropolitan Police said two people were being treated at the scene for smoke inhalation and cordons were in place. Police said they were continuing to evacuate people from the building.

London’s mayor called the fire a “major incident,” and one man reported that an exploding refrigerator ignited the blaze, although this is yet to be confirmed.

George Clarke, the presenter of “Amazing Spaces,” told Radio 5 Live he was covered in ash even though he was 100 meters (yards) from the scene.

According to AP, he said he saw people waving flashlights from the top levels of the building and saw rescuers “doing an incredible job” trying to get people out.

The fire stretches from the second to the 27th floor of the building.

More firefighters arrived to help the victims trapped inside.

One Twitter user wrote that he hoped everyone made it out alive. However, that was not immediately clear. One person described the tower on Twitter as a “massive residential block.”
