Northern Youths Insist Igbos Must Leave Region
Despite the threat of arrest by the Kaduna state government, the coalition of some northern youth groups who issued an eviction notice to Igbos living in the region have emboldened their resolve.
The leaders of the Arewa Youth Consultative Forum, AYCF, have insisted on its order that Igbos should leave the 19 northern states within three months.
After the threat of arrest issued by Governor El-Rufai of Kaduna, Abdulaziz Suleiman, one of the leaders of the AYCF, who read their declaration on Tuesday, said the group also held a meeting in Kaduna on Wednesday and resolved that “there will be no retreat, no surrender”.
In a telephone interview on Wednesday, June 7th, Suleiman who is the National Coordinator of Northern Emancipation Network, NEN, explained that contrary to the position by Kaduna State government, they are not advocating violence, PREMIUM TIMES report.

“Our declaration did not mention violence at all. The Igbos have consistently insisted that they don’t want to be in Nigeria, let them, therefore, go back to their places. They don’t believe in Nigeria, so, we also don’t believe in them,” Suleiman stated.
He also accused Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State of playing politics over the matter.
“Where was El Rufai when the Igbos gave the Fulani ultimatum to leave their areas?
“Where was he when over 500 northerners were killed in Ile-Ife? These people just politicising everything.
“Because he wants to run for President, he chose to ignore his people and appease the Igbo? Goodluck to him,” he said.
Since the declaration by the northern group emerged, various reactions have continued to trail the ‘quit notice’ and Nigerians across ethnic, religious and political divides, as well as the Igbos have in unison, strongly condemned the call.
In the meantime, following the tension in the country over the eviction notice, the Southeast Restoration Group has asked the Igbo people to hold Nnamdi Kanu responsible if anything happens to their kinsmen in Nigeria.
The group alleged that the leader of the Indigenous people of Biafra (IPOB), is defrauding and deceiving innocent Igbos to rebel against the Nigerian government, using the agitation for Biafra as a cover.
In a statement, the national coordinator of the group Charles Mbani said that Kanu and his collaborators were “hell bent on destroying the hard-earned resources of the Igbos in Nigeria through their actions, with grave danger for the peaceful co-existence of Nigeria as the only country that we can all call our own.”
“Let us make it abundantly it clear that the self-centered, selfish and criminally minded Biafra agitation that was conceived by Kanu, his political sponsors and gang of criminals who are always high on cheap substance alone is the greatest threat to the Igbos not only in the north but everywhere in the country including the south-east where Nnamdi’s IPOB and its collaborators known as MASSOB have continued to use threats and intimidation to destroy the economic life of the Igbo people,” the statement read in part.

The group further called for security operatives to be on alert, asking them to do the needful if any ethnic group anywhere in the country takes up arms against another.
