Meet Amina Yahaya, Usman Danfodio’s Political Record Breaker
History was re-written in Usman Danfodio University Sokoto, UDUS as a 400l female student, Amina Yahaya of the department of English, emerged the new SUG president of the University.
Ms. Amina Yahaya emerged the new SUG President after the impeachment of the elected SUG president, making her the second female student in Northern Nigeria and the first woman at Usmanu Danfodiyo in the conservative state of Sokoto to occupy the office of an SUG President.
Amina Yahaya was one of the Vice President’s of the union. She is full of optimism and confidence about her abilities, saying she hopes to join national politics someday.
The first female to break such a record in Northern Nigeria was a front line activist and student politician, Najatu Mohammed, who 30 years ago became the SUG president of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.

Najatu Mohammed contested the post and won in the early 80s, breaking the record of the first female student to occupy the office in Africa.
Meanwhile, in Lagos State University (LASU) Ojo, three students have been indefinitely suspended over an alleged attempt to abduct the Student Union Government (SUG) President of the institution, Tayo Sekoni.
According to the school’s latest official bulletin, released by the Centre for Information, Press And Public Relations of the Vice Chancellor’s Office (LASU), the trio attempted to abduct Sekoni on his way home on Thursday, July 28, 2016.
The suspended students are Oladayo Mojeed Babatunde, a 500-Level student of the School Of Transport; Adebanjo Fatai Adekoya, a 500-Level student of the Faculty of Law, and a Fola Kosoko, who just completed his studies in the institution. He had earlier been suspended over his involvement in some fracas.
The bulletin said the management of the school suspended the “students with immediate effect, for attempting to abduct the Lagos State University Students’ Union (LASUSU) President ‘Tayo Sekoni, on his way home on Thursday, 28th July, 2016, pending their appearances before the Students’ Disciplinary Committee (SDC).”

The aforementioned students/graduate were strongly instructed not to participate in the socio-academic activities of the prestigious Lagos State University until the suspension is lifted, and are not to be seen within the university premises except on invitation.
