Tamale flood victims get support from Apsonic company
Apsonic Motors Company Limited, has donated relief items to the Northern Regional secretariat of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), for the upkeep of victims of the recent floods which hit the Tamale Metropolis and the Sagnarigu district.
The items comprised 200 raincoats and several bales of used clothing, meant for distribution to the victims.
The company’s General Manager, Alhaji Rashid Adam, said the gesture is in line with the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility.
According to him, management was alarmed by the gravity of the disaster and quickly mobilized the relief items to augment NADMO’s stock.
Alhaji Rashid Adam reaffirmed Apsonic Company Limited’s commitment to invest in communities where it operates.
He called on other companies and corporate bodies to support the flood victims. The Northern Regional NADMO Coordinator, Alhaji Abdulai Silimboma, commended Apsonic Company Limited for the donation.
He described the donation as timely because NADMO is short of relief items to cover all the victims.
Alhaji Silimboma reiterated his call on private developers to desist from building on water ways. He anticipated that the floods could worsen when there is spillage from the Bagre dam in Burkina Faso.
Over a thousand people were displaced in the Tamale Metropolis and the Sagnarigu district, following torrential rains which flooded some communities.
Several houses were submerged in densely populated communities including Sawaba, Belpela, Kulnyevula, Gumani and Kalariga.
Livestock and other valuables were carried away and NADMO is yet to assuage the victims plight.
