The scheme would accommodate pupils in Primary 1 to 3 at the outset, and would move to other classes as the nation’s resources improved.

The Programme Manager however, explained that all the states of the federation, depending on their preparedness, would benefit from the social intervention programme.

Mrs. Adesanmi explained that the Ogun State government, with the workshop, would be able to define a state model that will be cost effective and sustainable in the state.

She further stated that while states, depending on readiness, would define their respective model based on cost effectiveness and sustainability, the federal government will provide oversight and technical support.

Speaking to newsmen, Mrs. Adesanmi said,

“The FG is providing oversight and also supporting the states with technical assistance to strengthen the structure that exists in the states. They federal government is providing funds to feed pupils in primary 1-3 as a start -up.

“For this year, it is beginning with 5.5 million pupils and with increase in enrolment, we may go beyond that. But that is what we plan for now.

“There are a lot of factors involved, we have to know how many pupils are in school and that is the first determinant. This workshop would assist us in determining that,”
