Raila Odinga Gets Heroic Welcome In Western Region
Raila Odinga received a heroic welcome at Luanda Market, Vihiga County during his trip in Western region.
Raila Odinga is touring the western region to win back supporters after the resignation of Ababu Namwamba as the Secretary General of the Orange Democratic Movement(ODM). Since his trip, residents have been welcoming with open arms.
He had visited Port Victoria where his team was to hold a meeting with ODM Party delegates.
Raila during the meeting said that his coalition was founded on ideals of social democracy, equity and justice, which continues to grow from strength to strength bringing together Kenyans from all corners of the country.
He further said it was time for Kenyans to hold a serious talk about ownership of her Islands.
Promised to deal with Museveni himself, he said:
“Uganda will harrass our fishermen yet the government is silent.”

Odinga told President Uhuru Kenyatta that he is not afraid to face him in 2017. Raila said he had defeated stronger contender like Mwai Kibaki in 20o7 and so Uhuru cannot be so strong a challenge.

Raila Odinga made this statement while at Luanda in Vihiga county. Raila said Uhuru cannot defeat him come 2017 as he will floor him and take the presidency. Odinga said:
“I was able to defeat Mwai Kibaki in 2007, why would I fear Uhuru Kenyatta. I am not afraid of him and I am ready to face him in the presidential elections next year.”
During one of his rally in Western Kenya, a cameraman attached to K24 television was attacked by political goons while covering the political rally. The cameraman, Moses Masinde, was filming the event at Port Victoria, Busia, the scene of action. It is not clear what inspired the act and whether it was politically inspired.
Political Journalists Association of Kenya (PJAK), which is the umbrella body of political reporters in Kenya, has condemned the act and urged the police to investigate and arrest the involved.
In its statement, the body said:
“This action is barbaric, uncouth and uncalled for. we urge politicians to be careful not to set their supporters against journalists especially now that the country is gearing up for election campaigns. We call upon the police to investigate this matter and bring the culprits to account so as to discourage such acts in the future.”
Police were today forced to disperse the rowdy crowd in Ababu’s political backyard in Budalangi constituency when Raila Odinga toured the area.

Raila has faced a rebellion from several leaders in the region including his once staunch supporter Budalangi MP Ababu Namwamba.
Namwamba resigned as ODM secretary general and has threatened to move to another party and challenge Raila for supremacy in the region. Other leaders from Western region to defect from ODM are Sirisia MP John Walukhe and Funyula’s Paul Otuoma.
